Google+ launched nearly one year ago today…and in that time it’s emassed nearly 100,000,000 users.
Interestingly, some of our clients have told us that they don’t see a value in G+. Google’s attitude is clear; take over the world of social media. They have seen what Facebook has done, and don’t see any reason that they can’t do that for themselves.
It reminds us of the Kevin Costner movie “Field of Dreams”:
they have built it…
and they will come.
Google realizes that they command the lion’s share of search worldwide, and seems hell-bent on taking down Facebook as the leading social media platform…and will go to all lengths to make that happen.
Below is a great overview on the role that G+ plays within Google’s overall vision for a more connected and relevant search product these visions were reiterated in an open letter from CEO Larry Page earlier this week.
WHY THIS ALL MATTERS TO YOU
Google+ (thus far) has only caught traction (generally) with tech-savvy males. While this isn’t the demographic that many of our clients are going after, there are three important reasons that we make sure that all of our clients are firmly installed in G+
- G+ gives small businesses SEO benefits. As we featured in THIS article a few months ago, Google’s new algorithms continue to upset and anger Facebook and even Google’s own advertising customers.
- G+ WILL catch traction in all markets. Don’t forget that Facebook was once a text-only tool relegated only to college students…nowadays, small businesses the world over are making tons of money off of their business pages, and couldn’t image running thier businesses without them. G+ has the hefty financial backing of Google…they’ll be big.
- Competition won’t be able to catch up to you. By jumping on board the G+ bandwagon early, you can build more followers than your competition will be able to once they (eventually) get on board. Meanwhile, you’ll be establishing market leadership in the eyes of the G+ social network, and in the eyes of search engines.
